April 9th - Ica to Nazca

We started our morning by a having a meeting with the Royal Ica Rotarian Club. They talked to us about the project they are working on. They are trying to preserve and replant a important tree that grows in Peru. This tree is called a Huarago and it can live to be a 1,000 years old. The tree can also be used for many other purposes so it is a very important and unique tree here. After our meeting with the Ica club, the club president Wilma and other Rotarians hosted us to the Museum of History in Ica. This museum explains a lot about the different people that settled in and around Ica. The museum had lots of ceramic pottery and textile artwok for us to view. We also got to see the way the ancient people mummified bodies for burial purpose. Lastly we saw a replica of the Nazca lines outside the museum. After our museum trip we were invitied to a barbeque at the past district governor´s house, Roberto. A lot of our friends that we had met already in Ica were there for this babeque so it was a perfect way to say good-bye to Ica. They barbequed chicken and beef in a barrel which was a new way for us to see this type of cooking. The food was amazing and we got to enjoy the company of many of the Rotarians in Ica. Next we traveld to Nazca by bus to meet the Nazca Rotarian Club. We then went to a meeting at a local restuarant. We had the opportunity to talk to many of the Rotarians in the Nazca club at the meeting and discuss our plans for the next couple days. There will be pictures from April 9th to come!
