We had breakfast with Jenny, our tour guide for the day then we headed out into the dessert where we got to climb a small hill and see parts of the Nazca lines. Jenny was very informative about the history and culture of the Nazca lines. We then went to a museum explaining the history of the lines and the woman who spent the majority of her life working on them.
Next we headed back into Nazca and visited a Ceramic studio run by local artisans. We then got to see a woman make a traditional piece of pottery and explain the steps she uses to paint and fire the pottery. We then explored their gift shop where some of us purchased a piece of pottery from this family’s studio.
After resting in our hotel we got to visit a group of historic aqueducts in which the people built after discovering natural spring water beneath the earth. These aqueducts were fascinating and showed another piece of history about Nazca. We also got to see other types of agriculture the local people grow including cacti which they use to attract bugs. They then capture the bugs and use them to make types of cosmetic products, like Nail polish.
We then visited a site of an ancient building that was used as a resting place for people when they traveled from one city to another. It was interesting to see what parts of the building still remain while other parts have completely vanished. The years of history and story telling here are absolutely amazing. Many thanks to Jenny and the Nazca club for hosting us in their city.
