After a wonderful breakfast with our host family, Norma and Mario, we headed to La Catalina with Ica's Rotary Club president, David. La Catalina is an asparagus and grape farm located outside of Ica. We toured all the different areas at La Catalina. We drove through the grape and asparagus fields, the grape and asparagus packaging plants, and saw the plant they use to feed their workers lunch. We also got to stop and visit with the falcons they use to drive away birds during the grape season.
Next David took us to meet Mario at a Pisco manufacturer. Pisco is Peru's national liquor that is processed from grapes. We learned the steps to make Pisco. Mario also graciously gave us each our own bottle of Pisco to take home.
Next we headed to Huacachina Desert to take a ride on the sand dunes in dune buggy. Once we got to the top of the sand dunes, we were able to get out some boards (similar to snowboards) and ride the sand dunes . IT WAS AMAZING!
Next we were hosted to a lunch with the Ica-Sur Rotary Club.
